Abstract:Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are a group of subepithelial lesions with malignant potential that are frequently detected as submucosal tumors during gastrointestinal endoscopy. Surgery is often considered for resectable GIST. With the development of endoscopic techniques, the gastrointestinal endoscopy’s potential and value in treating GIST have gradually come into focus, in addition to its important role in diagnosis. Endoscopic submucosal dissection and its derivative techniques have simplified GIST resection and minimized invasiveness. Furthermore, the innovation of the procedures allowed endoscopy to be applied to the resection of various types of tumors. Reviewing the current status of the endoscopic treatment of GIST will help to understand the application of different resection techniques and clarify the areas for further investigation.
