Abstract:Objectives Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has become an indispensable diagnostic modality for the diagnosis and management of panreatobiliary and gastrointestinal disease, however, it is still an challenging technology for trainee. As far, EUS experts in our country are far below the rising demands, we have to face the scarcity of training courses and the variety of training forms. What’s more, researches focusing on the EUS training are rare. According to the learning curve for EUS, we have generated the idea of progressive modules in EUS to meet the needs of various levels of EUS training. We aimed to verify that trainees’ ability of mastering EUS would increase a lot from this new training pattern after comparing with traditional long-term training. Methods We divided the EUS learning courses into 3 stages and 6 levels. 10 learners who have achieved competence in routine endoscopic procedures but without any knowledge and skills on EUS procedures were enrolled. Overall learning time was 1 year. 10 trainees were randomly distributed into 2 groups, one is the traditional long-term training program, the other is progressive modules. The proficiency of EUS knowledge and skills in the 2 groups would be compared. Results At the final examination, the proficiency of learners on EUS is obviously higher in progressive modules group than in traditional long-term training group, however, we didn’t have a statistical comparison owing to the few numbers of trainees. Conclusions Progressive modules are superior than the traditional training form, it should be advocated.
